Health Care

This post is also available in: Dutch

Together with the locals, Cambodia-Dutch Organization built a new medical post. Unfortunately we don’t have the financial means to keep it running and buy the necessities. Our medical staff and medical volunteers need more than just plasters and disinfectants.

Since the opening it’s been busy daily and the patients add up. In June 2010 we treated close to 3500 patients! In most cases people need treatment of less serious conditions, but we also get serious infections and concrescences.

The permanent staff consists of two nurses, a midwife and an employee for general things, like maintenance and security.

Outside the medical costs, like plasters, bandages and medication, we also have to spend quite an amount on the maintenance of the technical part of the medical post. We’re already using generator no. 3, drilled a new water well and had to deform the terrain because of the rain water. A solution to the power problem could be solar energy, but we don’t have the financial means for that now. If you have a solution for us, please let us know.

Medical post Chhuk

By the end of 2009 we could finally start building the medical post in Chhuk, which was so wanted by the locals. After years of preparation and organization it’s finally ready. We can now start furnishing with the many medical things we received from the Netherlands and also start on the infrastructure.

The building is done by the locals, under supervision of a local building expert. It was very important to our organization to let the locals contribute to their medical post. For most people it was their first experience on a building site ever, which can be seen as an extraordinary achievement.

We never would’ve been able to do all this without financial support of Wijngaard Heesscholengemeenschap De Lage Waardmuziekband De Familie Buisman and stichting Wilde Ganzen . On behalf of the Cambodian people: thank you very much for this!

Glasses days

Other medical projects in Chhuk and surrounding villages are, amongst others, glasses days, an all-round medical program for a week, in collaboration with other relieforganizations, and dental consulting-hours for the locals. During the first glasses day we were able to hand out over a 1000 pairs of glasses to people who needed glasses. After that, the demand for glasses kept coming and we now organize glasses days for the locals on a regular basis. The glasses are donated by foundationEyeclarify from the Netherlands.

Dental visit

On a regular basis we also have dental volunteers in Chhuk and surrounding villages. Not only do they treat people with conditions, they also do general dental checks and provide education on dental hygiene.
